The importance of good geology communication (Part 1)
There is a lot of excellent research and exploration out there but not a lot of people know about it.
Geology is a new science. It only came to be in the late 18th century, and its key views only truly developed by the 1980s, the best example being plate tectonics.
The subject is mostly associated with either field work in the rain or dust, the other is rocks, minerals, oil and mining. Geology is either seen as an aesthetic application or a practical one.
Hobbyists are under the impression that it is an easy subject. While scientists see it as a difficult science because it is hard to be a specialist in it. (Once you have mastered computer science for simulation, you might have to learn survival techniques when going out into the wild.)
Geology requires both physical knowledge gained through exercise and academic knowledge gained through study. It requires both the practical application of the mind and reading tons to get other people’s ideas.
These are all difficult to communicate. More in Part 2.
